I have used Disk Utility to format some old cards that were formatted as FAT. Implications- a hardware issue?įor most of commercial microSD cards there is no need to format them again as they are already in the correct format, that is, exFAT. I was hoping that by using AFT that I would get more 'play options' but it's not the case. Worth pointing out to the guru's out there, maybe, when I set up the DX originally I simply dragged & dropped my music(~160Gb) onto the SD card & loaded it no problem to the same result as above ie didn't use AFT at all. ![]() Is this the same for all DX's or is it just confined to my device? Very annoying. Similarly you cannot play all songs from a selected Genre only an album or a song within. Went to All Music on DX & it's as before ie cannot play all songs from a selected Artist, only an album or a selected song. Disconnected DX & scanned new card, all good. Loaded ~15Gb of music w/o much of a problem. ( Disc Utility in Mac appears to be leaving files on the erased card that is conflicting with AFT, I have an image of these files if anyone is interested). NOTE to newbies including myself- when you mount the SD card it should show only one folder 'DIR.LOCK'. Update:new SD card used, AFT a lot more stable but still losing connection to DX but as i said it's a lot more stable than before. Hi Paco, thanks for the images & all your help. The card can now be read in most players and can be mounted in the Finder in Mac or the Desktop in Windows. Just to be sure, press command+I after selecting the card in the Finder to ascertain it. The card will mount in the Finder once Disk Utility has finished. Press Erase and the card will be formatted as exFAT. In the window that lowers select exFAT, leave the scheme to MBR and give it a name that has a maximum of 8 characters (some DAC players and cameras give problems with longer names). Launch Disk Utility, select your card at left and press Erase at the top icons. Open a card window to ensure is an empty card or one that can be erased.Ģ. In the resulting window you will see in the fourth line the type of format.Ģ. Ascertain that the card has a format different from exFAT: select the card in the Finder and press command+I. If you are to use Disk Utility to format I would counsel following those steps:ġ. I have seldom used it but is recommended in several forums. The SD Association has a SD card formatter for both Windows and Mac that can be dowloaded from their site ( ). This older format type does not let to write files larger than 2 Gb and some DSD256 files are rather huge. ![]() This can be a daunting app, because of all its features, and a bit of design might make it easier to work with.Click to expand. For most of commercial microSD cards there is no need to format them again as they are already in the correct format, that is, exFAT. ![]() My only criticism of Metadatics is that I find the overall interface of the app to be a bit spartan. ![]() Metadatics can do many powerful text manipulations, but you need to perform them outside of iTunes, whereas Doug Adams’ AppleScripts perform the changes in your iTunes library. I often refer to these AppleScripts in myĪsk the iTunes Guy columns, as ways of getting around iTunes’ limitations. Serious iTunes taggers will be familiar with some of these features as tools available in AppleScripts from Doug Adams’ĭoug’s AppleScripts for iTunes website. Manipulate the text in tags with Metadatics. You can insert text in a tag, remove text from a tag, remove a number of characters, convert case, replace text, number files, and much more. There is also a panoply of tools that allow you to manipulate text in tags. Metadatics just shows all the artwork it finds, regardless of size. I wish the Google artwork search allowed you to specify the size of the artwork you prefer, such as 600-by-600 pixels. MusicBrainz website, and it can search for album artwork on Amazon and Google. Metadatics offers a whole range of power features.
